Component Subwoofers Information:

Subwoofers are dedicated to reproducing low audio frequencies from 150 Hz down to 20 Hz. Because of this, adding subs to your system gives an overall depth to the sound of your music. We carry a variety of shapes and sizes, and we are sure to have the sub that suits your specific needs. Keep in mind that your choice should depend on your amplifier, the amount of space in your vehicle’s cab or trunk, and your preferred style of music.

The RMS power handling rating refers to the amount of power a sub can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend giving your sub 75% - 90% of its recommended RMS rating to help prevent over-powering or blowing your sub. You select a subwoofer based on the amount of power output generated by your amplifier, the sub's impedance and the voice coil specifications. Subwoofer impedance can be rated at a 2 ohm, 4 ohm, or an 8 ohm load. The number of voice coils allow for different wiring configurations. The type of voice coil setups includes single, dual, or quad voice coil.

An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the sensitivity number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play given a set amount of input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter away from the speaker. Some are measured with 2.83 volts of input rather than 1 watt.

The wider the range of frequencies a subwoofer can produce, the better the performance. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
